Word Matching

Opening ZiMatch…

How to play

Choose an English meaning on one side and the matching Chinese word on the other. A correct pair clears a space for another word. Work through the whole set, reading each card before you select it. You can start without an account, and your answer history stays in this browser.

Begin with an untimed ten-word round. The two columns use different orders, so position alone cannot tell you the answer. When a meaning looks familiar, pause long enough to recall its Chinese form before searching the other column. This makes the game a recall exercise as well as a recognition exercise.

Open the settings to change direction, set size, pinyin or the timer. English-to-Chinese practice asks you to recognize a written form; Chinese-to-English practice asks you to connect that form to a meaning. A lesson's focused word set can replace the usual unlocked selection without changing your overall unlock total.

Controls

Click or tap one card from each column. Use 1–5 for the left column and Q, W, E, R, T for the right column. Press P to show or hide pinyin. Keyboard shortcuts leave typing and browser shortcuts alone. You can use Tab and Space to reach and select cards too.

What it trains

Matching builds quick connections between familiar written words and meanings. The shared learning record gives missed words more weight in future rounds, including the other games. A quick match is evidence of recognition in this task; it does not establish that you can use the word in a sentence or understand it in natural speech.

Tips for your next round

Try one round with pinyin, then hide it for a second pass. Say the word aloud after a match and make a short original sentence. When two words feel interchangeable, read their meanings in the word library and find a context that separates them. Choose accuracy before adding a timer.

Questions before you play?

Will opening this page reset my progress?

No. All games use the same existing browser save and optional account sync.

Do I have to use the timer?

No. Untimed play lets you take as long as you need. The timer is an optional recognition challenge.
